Stitch Fix : December

I'm excited to share with you my first Stitch Fix post!  Not sure what Stitch Fix is?  Stitch Fix is a subscription clothing service that sends you items picked out just for you by a stylist (5 per box).  You keep what you like, and send back what you don't want.  You can find out more in this post here.

And without further ado (because I know you've been waiting-- It's January for heavens sakes!!) take a peek at my December fix!

I left my stylist some notes that I wanted to try some fancy black tie dresses for an upcoming winter semi formal and wedding.  She nailed it with two great dresses!  I was so pleased.  This, I think, was my best fix yet.  I really encouraged my stylist to look at my pinterest board this time around-- which, I think, made the huge difference.  Out of the 5 items, I kept 3.  Can you guess which ones are now in my closet?

Amour Vert Cathita Dress $68.00

I started by trying on the Amour Vert Cathita Dress.  At first glance, I thought it looked just okay.  There was some small lace detail at the waist that really blended into the black fabric-- so this detail was hard to see. When I tried it on I was surprisingly pleased and happy with the slim, sleek fit and cut of the dress.  The dress material is thick, perfect  for our midwest winters.  Nearly all the dresses I own are sleeveless, so the Cathita Dress was something a little different.

I paired this dress with my favorite rock necklace, black tights, and some black heeled booties. You could also find a colorful statement necklace or a scarf to complete this outfit.

Liverpool Mira Skinny Jean $78.00

At first glance, I thought THESE LOOK LIKE MATERNITY JEANS, GET THESE OUT OF HERE!  But, I tried them on and gee they are extremely comfy.  The waist band-- totally weird, but who really ever sees that anyways?  I have issues with jeans fitting in the waist and jeans typically are too short for me.  But, these skinnies passed all the tests.

Pixley Greenich Striped Knit Top $48.00

I had pinned this knit top on my pinterest thinking that this shirt was black with white stripes… turns out it's blue!  I was a little disappointed because I wanted to pair this knit top with the black and gray Herringbone Vest that I got in a previous fix.  But, then I remembered that I have a blue puffy vest from Old Navy that would do the trick.

The elbow pads are a black leather material.

Everly Poppie Dress $64.00

The other option they sent me for my upcoming formal was this Everly Popppie Dress.  The scalops are   sweet and beautiful.  The dress is a very light material, which would make a great dress for a spring event or a summer wedding.   This dress was a little big in the arms but I could easily bring it in to get it hemmed.  The waist line fell perfectly.

Crochet Fringe Top (I can't remember the real name or price of this one… sorry!)

When I first put my eyes on this piece, I thought-- sweatshirt and crochet?  WHAT THE HECK!?  And when I tried on the piece…. yep, what the heck?  A little frumpy and weird.  Party on the top, lounging on the bottom.  Just not my style.

So, here's the breakdown.  How did you do?  Did you guess the three that I kept?

Amour Vert Cathita Dress $68.00 - KEEP!
I just loved how this dress fit me and I didn't own a 'little black dress' yet… but now I do!

Liverpool Mira Skinny Jean $78.00 - KEEP!
I wear these jeans almost everyday!  They are SO Comfortable-- perfect for all of these long days in the car as we travel over the holidays.

Pixley Greenich Striped Knit Top $48.00 - KEEP!
Now that winter is here, this is a great little top to keep me warm.  I love layering it with by blue puff vest!

Everly Poppie Dress $64.00 - Return.
I liked this dress, but that material was too thin to wear in the winter and since it wasn't a perfect fit and I was already in love with the Cathita Dress, I decide to return this one.

Crochet Fringe Top - Return.
This one was just a little too bizarre for me.  I love crochet.  I like fringe.  I like sweatshirts.  I just don't like them all together.  So, I returned this one too.

Stitch Fix : About

Hello Sweet Friends!

I'm kicking off a new monthly series with my Stitch Fix reviews!  Before I start showing you the goods, I want to let you know a little bit about this "shopping trip" in the box.  Currently, I'm on Fix #5, and I'm loving it!  Shopping at the mall just gets me overwhelmed, and I can never find what I'm looking for and if I do, it's never in the right size.... UGH.  Can you relate?  Then ladies, Stitch Fix might be for you!  Low stress, unique & stylish items that were picked with you in mind, clothes that are the right size, and all items are in your price range... can we get a YES PLEASE!  Read on, dear friend, read on.  Here's the deal about Stitch Fix and how it works:

Ten Things I Know About Stitch Fix
by S

1) Stitch Fix is an online fashion retailer that has a personal shopper send you 5 items in a package through the mail! (Don't you just love getting goodies in the mail!?)

2) They send clothes, jewelry, scarfs, and purses!  All the fashion necessities a lady needs, am I right?  :) (AND, you only keep what you love, and send back the rest!)  You can also request not to have items sent to you (I usually decline scarfs and purses... I just have so many already and would rather spend money replacing those teacher blouses I purchased 6 years ago!)

3) You'll always be surprised with what's inside your box.  No pictures are sent to you beforehand... so when you open the box, it's always a surprise!  (YIPPIE!)

4) To get started, you simply sign up, fill out a fashion profile, leave your personal stylist a note about what you'd like to see in your upcoming Fix (aka box sent to your door) and you're set!  You may also want to start a Pinterest board so that your stylist can get a glimpse of your overall style.  (I have found this VERY helpful.)

5) While you're filling out your style profile you will be asked to create a "budget".  This is essential because you don't want to fall in love with something that's out of your price range!  No more tears will be shed!

6) Each Fix has a styling fee of $20.  This fee goes towards any item you purchase.  You can keep what you like and send back what you're not too stoked about within 2 business days.   If you decide not to buy anything, then you loose your $20.  Bummer, right?  But, I've always found at least one piece that I've fallen in love with in each Fix!   So, don't be too worried!  If you fall in love with all 5 items, you receive a 25% discount.  (WINNER!)

7) You can decide how often you want a package.  Monthly, 2-3 weeks, every other month, every three months, or you can choose an option that allows you to request a Fix whenever you're in need!

8) Each Fix package includes a priority bag (already paid for) to send back unwanted items, a note from your personal stylist, style cards (to give you outfit ideas), and an invoice with each item's price.
9) After each fix, you have the opportunity to leave feedback for your stylist.  This is a great time to be specific so that each fix keeps getting better!  You can also immediately request a new Fix and let your stylist know what you're looking for whether it be seasonal items, a special occasion outfit or some accessories to go with that new dress you just bought.

10) Still have more questions?  You can find out more about Stitch Fix on their FAQ page.

Interested in receiving your own Fix?  You can use my referral link to get started!  When you have a friend sign-up for a Fix, you receive $25 towards your own next Fix.  (Great deal, right!?)

My December Fix is in-- I'm excited to share it with you!

P.S.  Have you already tried Stitch Fix?  What are your thoughts?

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Online Places

Sometimes a girl chooses favorites.  Who am I kidding.  Every girl has favorites, and these are mine.  Here are my top 10 favorite little places on the internet…

1. Blessed is She

I start my EVERY.  SINGLE.  DAY.  reading this devotion.  The readings for the day come in my inbox (yep, my email!) with a reflection from one of the beautiful souls at BIS.  Friends, I don't even roll out of bed, or turn on the light (I KNOW.)… I just grab my phone, tap to my inbox and begin my prayer time.  I've tried out a few online Catholic devotions, and this one has been my favorite.  If you're looking for some inspiring scripture and a community to share it with, you *must* check this out! (And I'm just in love with their little Advent book!)

2. A Beautiful Mess

My heart frolics when I see a craft post on A Beautiful Mess.  Dang, those ladies are crafty and I secretly want to be neighbors with them and trade cookie recipes… and be invited to all of their Friendsgivings… ahhh… maybe someday!

3. Rainbow Delicious

This is a recent find, and boy, has it CHANGED.  MY.  LIFE.  Emily cooks up meal plans for the week and includes a grocery list.  YES.  A GROCERY LIST.  She has saved my sanity!  We had the butternut squash and crispy sage pizza tonight… my mouth STILL is watering!  SO yummy!

4.  Teachers Pay Teachers

As a teacher, I heart my teaching community and how they share resources with each other.  Teachers helping teachers.  I find so many wonderful lessons and activities (many free!) on TPT.  If you teach or have kids at home, this is totally worth your time!

5. Studio DIY

I just ADORE this spunky little corner of the internet!  Corky DIY projects and party ideas.  I could spend HOURS being inspired here!

6.  Creative Market

Do you LOVE playing with fonts and graphics?  You'll just have a blast sorting through the beautiful work on Creative Market.  If you sign up for their newsletter, you'll get sent free fronts and graphics every Monday!! (It's a steal!)

7. Stitch Fix

A package of pretty items sent to my doorstep?  Yes, please!  I love trying on all of the fun items they send and find it pretty easy to send back the ones I'm not in love with.  They've sent really unique items-- and I ALWAYS get complements on them when I wear them!

8.  Pinterest

I can easily spend hours upon hours being inspired by this platform.  SO MANY good ideas, SO LITTLE time!

9.  Oh Happy Day

Is another sassy little craft blog that I admire.  Party supplies, hand crafty loveliness, holiday cheer… they just got it ALL.

10.  Jane the Virgin

So, I don't really watch television shows.  The last show that I really got into (and will FOREVER LOVE) is Everybody Loves Raymond.  Yep, a blast from the past.  But, one weekend home alone and snuggled up in bed I started Jane the Virgin and watched a whole season in one day… (embarrassing, but we've all done it… right?!)  Anyways, it's filled with drama and I get a kick out of the telenovela style of the show.  The show name is a little odd, but if you can get past that, this show is action packed! (Your husband might even like it!)

Well, that's a wrap!  Happy Tuesday friends!

P.S. What are your favorite online places?

2015 Advent Calendar Swap

A few years ago I started the “Advent Calendar Swap” in my little community of friends.  Now, I’m opening up to all you crafty folks!

What is an Advent Calendar Swap, you ask?  You randomly get a name of a person (and their interest profile) and thoughtfully wrap 12 gifts for them to open the 12 days before Jesus’s Birthday!  You too will receive a special advent package all tied up with bows that will arrive at your front door step.  It’s a fun little way to anticipate the Advent Holiday season and the gift of Christ.

Here are just a few HIGHLIGHTS:
1) You should find/craft 12 small gifts to give your person, wrap them thoughtfully!
2) All packages must be sent by Dec. 5th.
3) Suggested spending amount is $35-$40
4) Each small gift must be numbered 1-12 (Start opening gift 12, end with gift number one)
5) Don't forget, we're preparing for a celebration!! Jesus's Birthday! And YES, I know there are more than 12 days in the advent season, but our Calendars are starting at 12. Gift opening will start on December 14th and end on December 25th.
6) I will message you the person you get to send a lovely advent calendar package to after everyone has replied with their interests and addresses.
And. Shhhh....keep the name top secret until they get your package!
 7) Please let me know if you have questions! SO EXCITED!

If you're interested in joining, simply fill out this google form:
